Hi I’m Geraldine! I’ve lived in Kennebunk, Maine for over 20 years.
You remember “show and tell” in elementary school? Some kids dreaded it, but not me. I was the kid who excitedly jumped up and shared everything – a koala bear sent to me by my Australian relatives, my latest drawings, or the exotic necklace my dad bought for me on a business trip.
Well, that’s me, today! I’m excited to share what makes Maine so special. So many people tell me that they have happy memories of Maine, I want you to feel like you have never left. I grew up in Connecticut and came to Maine 23 years ago, so I guess I’m ‘from away.’
When you drive around Maine, it’s easy to spot beautiful homes, rocky coastlines, picturesque towns – but I’ll tell you about the out-of-the-way scenic spots perfect for a picnic, where to explore centuries-old cemeteries (tombstones can reveal so much), and I’ll also share some of my British Mum’s baking recipes. Her shortbread is a favorite.
On chilly nights I often can be found curled up on the couch with my beagle, Bailey, watching foreign thrillers on Netflix. That’s Bailey in the photo with me. (I think he has more friends on Facebook than I do.)
I also love to cultivate my artistic-side. I graduated from Paier College of Art in Connecticut and I’ve been a working artist ever since. My illustrations and paintings can be found on greeting cards, paper products, garden flags, and even giant popcorn tins! I’m now learning how to create repeat designs for products like textiles, paper products and home goods. You can find my artistic endeavors and products (( coming soon)) on my Portfolio page.
In addition to art, I freelance as a writer, proofreader, illustrator, and ad designer. And I design books for writers and artists. Most recently I collaborated with The Retro Roadtripper, photographer Joshual Hrehovcik, on several books. I’ll be sharing his great photos here. Did I mention I’m also a photographer?
Like I said, I love show & tell, and I hope you’ll enjoy my posts, photographs and art here at Travels in Maine.
